London Marathon Live: If you’ve been inspired by friends and family, or the thousands of runners lucky enough to be training and running this year’s London Marathon, and are now considering entering the ballot for next year’s event, then you’ve come to the right place.

When is the London Marathon 2022 ?
These are likely to be the start times for the mass participation event and broadcasting coverage.

Date: Sunday, October 2
Time: 09:30 BST
TV: BBC One, from 08:30 BST
Live stream: BBC iPlayer, BBC Sport website

London Marathon start times
The races are staggered with the following order in place: 08:50 (elite wheelchair men’s and women’s races), 09:00 (elite women’s race) and 09:40 (elite men’s race and mass start.)

Whether it’s raising money for charity, getting yourself fit or simply ticking running a 26.2 mile course off your bucket list, the London Marathon is among the most memorable sporting events of the UK calendar.

While entering the ballot is very simple, being successful is very tricky, with the event growing in popularity each year.

Around 17,000 spaces are up for grabs via the ballot and in 2020, over 457,000 people applied via that route, which shows just how hard it is to get a place on the start line.

Don’t let that put you off, though, as this could be your lucky year. Here’s everything you need to know about entering the ballot for the 2023 race.

Why is the 2022 London Marathon in October?

This will be the third successive year that the London Marathon will be held in October rather than its traditional April date.

In short, the reason why it was not held in April this year is due to the fact that, when they were making that decision, there was still plenty of uncertainty around coronavirus and its restrictions.

Brasher added: “We believe that by moving the 2022 event to October we give ourselves the best chances of welcoming the world to the streets of London, enabling tens of millions to be raised for good causes and giving people the certainty that their hard work and training will allow them to experience the amazing crowds cheering them every step of the way from Greenwich to Westminster.
